I Wanted to Protect You
In Luke 13:34-35 is a statement of Jesus as he was making his way to Jerusalem to ultimately be crucified. It is a seemingly harsh statement, but embedded within it is something gentle and protective. He is sad because he wanted to be their protector, but they weren't willing. During the days leading up to Jesus' final passover observance, things became very tense for him. His authority is questioned, plots are made against him, the leaders were indignant and jealous of him. The crowds, however, are astonished at his teaching. Jesus warns the people to beware of the hypocrisy of the leaders. Jesus loves us. He wants to protect us, but he will rebuke those that don't let him.
